Virus detected in a compressed or self-extracting file

The protection behaves as follows with RAR and ZIP compressed files:

Compressed files in RAR format

In the case of RAR files, the protection acts on the container itself, that is, on the entire RAR file and not on the individual files it contains. As a result, the entire RAR file is deleted.

Compressed files in ZIP format

As a general rule, the protection acts within the compressed ZIP file, scanning the files it contains. In this case, the protection performs a full scan of both the container and every file it contains. Then, if a threat is detected, it disinfects the ZIP file regardless of the extensions of the files it contains.

How does the protection remove infected files inside a compressed CAB file or similar?

Sometimes does not neutralize the threats it detects. In most cases, this is because the threats are contained in a compressed or self-extracting CAB file or a file with a format that cannot be modified despite the protection detects the presence of a threat in the file.

Follow these steps:

  1. Find the compressed file that has detected.

  2. Extract the file into a folder using your usual compression tool. If you cannot extract it with your usual compression software, and you don't recognize the file or it seems suspicious, then just delete it.

  3. Scan the content of the folder with . Follow these steps:

    1. Right-click the folder.

    2. Select Scan with .

  4. will scan the content of the folder and neutralize the virus.

  5. We advise that you delete the compressed file to prevent the antivirus from detecting new threats in it in later scans. If you want to keep any of the extracted files, they will still be available in the scanned folder.
